The Merano Basin – a well beloved landscape

Due to its privileged climatic position the spa town of Merano had already attracted a lot of guests in the second half of the nineteenth century – primarily from the areas of the former  Danube Monarchy.  Merano as well as the surrounding villages Tirolo and Scena are rightly defined as the sun terrace of South Tyrol – of which the Mediterranean plants and artistically designed parcs clearly evidence.  The enchantment of this spot lies in the contrast between the snow covered mountain peaks on its north side and the open basin on its south side where the warm winds can easily stream forwards.  Therefore, it’s  no wonder that  one encounters alpine flora as well as exotic palm trees  being  resistant to the mild winter temperatures.
